Empty Glassful

‘An Empty Glassful’ is a series of six oil on acrylic glass pictures which combine human poses around a wine glass with a specific colour background denoting the mood for an alcoholic drink. These colours set the idea of emotions spilling over until the last drop against the empty and ransparent glass.

Both the human body and the glass become vessels, the one opaque and the other transparent, with the suggestion that the body is full of what the glass has emptied. Through the dominance of one single colour, ‘spillage’ becomes the expression of a particular emotional state as the glass is empty and clean, while the body, though not actively consuming, shows the results of having drunk in the contents. It is an attempt to depict in exaggerated colour emotions which cannot usually be seen. The deliberately simple wooden figure is only a representation of the complex human form, whilst the acrylic glass acts as a symbol of the soul, fragile, transparent, yet capable of being filled with intense colour.
